Aukami: An Introduction

The Aukami were the heirs to everything the Kamir left behind after their Ascension, but their own legacy was one of overreaching arrogance and bitter disappointment.

Much of the homeworld, Aukam, has fallen into ruins that have been reclaimed by jungles and deserts across the planet's surface. Ancient ziggurats, most of them crumbling, rise from the wreckage.

Only one major city remains - an ember glowing in the ashes of Aukami civilization: Multvaros. It is a sprawling metropolis with an intact ziggurat at its heart - the Bright Temple, as it is known to the city's inhabitants. The Bright Temple is the seat of power. When a new leader is elected by the Cepelem (representative council of Aukami scientists and doctors), a powerful shaft of light erupts from the temple, followed closely by a psionic pulse that can be felt by the entire populace.

Physical Facts

Aukami stand about eight feet tall, with features that are somewhat akin to those of Mystics, Timonae, and Vollistan Light Singers. They have olive skin, silver hair, extra knuckles in their fingers, no fingerprints, and eyes that glow different colors depending on their mood. Their lifespans are measured in centuries.

Hooks

* The Aukami are adept at medical technology and applications of it that involve psionics, particularly telekinetics.
* The Aukami once enslaved a colony of Lotorians and that colony's descendants. Those Lotorians also served as subjects for numerous medical and scientific experimentation programs.
* The Hekayti liberated the Lotorian slaves about two hundred years ago in a conflict known as the Unshackling.
* The Aukami fall short of the power of the Kamir primarily because they no longer know how the psi amplification modules gathering dust in the Bright Temple work.
* The Aukami once had resurrection technology, but lost it when the Kamir laid waste to many assets before departing Aukam.
* In general, Aukami are serious, somber people who want to put behind themselves a dark and troubled past. They put great stock in mastering their emotions. However, they also recognize the value inherent in venting from time to time. Twice a day, all Aukami are invited to a great pavilion at the Bright Temple known as the Felkieb or "Shouting Quarter." During these five-minute gatherings, the Aukami shout and yell at the tops of their lungs.

Lotorians: An Introduction

The Lotorians had to come from somewhere. The trouble is: No one can really agree on where, depending on which Lotorian you're talking to at the time.

Commonly, most Lotorians seem to agree that their original homeworld got wrecked somehow by the Kamir. This has fueled a long-time grudge against all Kamiroid aliens.

These days, however, they are found all over Hiverspace. Many dwell on family-operated starships, surviving off what salvage they can sell. Others, because of the Lotorian aptitude for all things financial, find work in corporations, large and small.

On average, Lotorians are about five feet tall. They're covered in coarse fur, which is usually some variation of brown or gray. They've got elongated snouts and eyes that are banded by black fur. The design of the band varies from family to family. They've got two arms and two legs, and each appendage has six digits. They have prehensile tails.

Because Lotorian society is so decentralized, culture is largely determined by individuals or families.

Lotorian traditions, like culture, are specific to various individuals and families.

Hekayti: An Introduction

The humanoid inhabitants of the planet Hekayt are divided into four distinct castes:

* Ledelkrig: Honor-driven warriors. The Ledelkrig welcomes both men and women into its ranks, although females wear their hair close-cropped. Dead warriors are loaded aboard interstellar probes and launched into space to act as advance scouts, seeking new worlds for the Hekayti to inhabit.

* Konterbeid: Efficient bureaucrats and recordkeepers. The most revered Konterbeid bureaucrats have their memories and likenesses stored as holographic AI to provide advice to the younger generations.

* Torveil: Spiritual counselors and technicians, focused on making people and machines work together. A priest of the Torveil administers the Worthing test to adolescents to help determine which caste they are most appropriate for. Torveil priests are interred in mausoleums. The most revered take their place in the pantheon of Andellig, as the Hekayti equivalent of saints and demigods.

* Verdikke: Individuals who fail the Worthing process or who are exiled from their caste for malfeasance or criminal activities become society's unwanted castoffs in this caste. One of the most infamous subgroups of this caste is the Medlidikke (Unmerciful). They are a rogue clan of outcast Ledelkrig warriors and descendants of those who were disgraced in the past. They are vicious, cruel, bloodthirsty spacefaring savages who demonstrate their superiority by ambushing and killing those they deem to be inferior. The Medlidikke take no hostages and no prisoners. Usually, they don't even bother to pillage starships they strike. They're only in it for the kill.

They call no world home and no world would want them.

On average, Hekayti stand from seven to nine-feet-tall. Their skin is mottled green, an evolutionary adaptation that they developed millennia ago to find camouflage from predators in the tropical jungles of their homeworld. They have bony growths, like ram horns, jutting from their skulls. Some Hekayti have hair, but it is a recessive trait. In males, hair is taken as an indication of weakness. In females, hair can be used to denote attractiveness.
